Biography
Maria is an English and Cypriot qualified Barrister. She has 15+ years of experience providing specialised legal support on international aspects of taxation, covering both corporate and private clients. She advises on legal issues related to the tax implications of cross-border structuring, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border insolvency as well as personal international tax planning.
Maria is a regular speaker at international conferences and a member of the International Fiscal Association, Cyprus Branch and the Committee of Companies, Tax Planning and Capital Markets of the Cyprus Bar Association with a notable involvement in the drafting and adoption of the laws and regulations relating to the transposition of the DAC6 Directive in Cyprus, regarding the disclosure of cross-border arrangements within the EU. As a regulated Insolvency Practitioner, she is instructed to advise on insolvency and bankruptcy cases of both corporate clients and private clients.
In 2007, Maria was awarded the Heather Self Gold Medal for obtaining the highest mark in Paper I, Principles of International Taxation for the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation, a professional qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation in the UK.
